Teething can be extremely painful for a baby and very frustrating for mom and dad, too. For most babies the first teeth begin to erupt sometime between four and seven months old. But it takes about three years for the full set of primary teeth to come in. During this time your child may experience periods of fussiness, have trouble sleeping, be irritable, drool (a lot!) and even have periods characterized by a lack of appetite.
One great piece of advice for teething babies is being creative in finding ways to soothe them. When a teething child needs something to help ease the pain, here’s what we recommend:
We do not advise using benzocaine products to soothe teething for children younger than two. Some of these products include Anbesol, Hurricane, and Orajel. Benzocaine has been connected with a rare disease that reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood stream and can be very dangerous.
