At Advanced Dentistry of Long Island we know that the idea of having a cavity filled can cause dread in many people. We are very sensitive to that fact and use the most modern procedures and state of the art equipment to fill cavities. Our practice is a favorite with scaredy-cats when it comes to dental fillings in Long Island!
During regular check-ups (if you stick to a twice a year schedule) we can usually catch and fill a cavity before it does serious damage to your tooth. But even if decay has just recently settled in, the bacteria and any resulting infection must be removed immediately.
If decay gets to the next level, a toothache can occur. Many people ignore toothaches, but they are the telltale sign of a cavity. A toothache may go away, but the decay only gets worse and eventually will cause much more discomfort than a filling procedure.
First we’ll make sure you are comfortable and relaxed. We’ll give you a set of headphones and you can tune into any type of music you like. If you would rather watch TV, go right ahead. We’ll even find your favorite channel for you.
Next, you’ll receive a local anesthetic (we use OnSet, the fastest and safest dental anesthetic on the market) so that you won’t feel discomfort. After Dr. Herman gently removes the decay, your tooth is ready to receive the filling.
We use many types of material for dental fillings in our Long Island practice but the most popular is called composite. A composite filling is tooth-colored and matches the hue of your natural tooth exactly. Our patients tell us they can’t tell where the natural tooth ends and the new dental filling begins.
Some advice for you: Don’t wait until that little twinge becomes a big pain!
